Dallas McKennon voiced Gumby in these and in the others (he did Pokey in these and others). An extremely prolific character actor, Dallas McKennon (often known as simply "Dal" McKennon, misspelled on Gumby credits as Dal "McKinnon") worked often for Walter Lantz, Walt Disney, UPA and some others to say the least. He also did Daniel Boone and worked for Will Vinton's Claymation.

The first Eskimos immigrated to Alaska from northern Asia, specifically the Siberian Arctic. Archaeologists set the date at somewhere between 2,000 and 8,000 years ago, after the land bridge across the Bering Strait had been reclaimed by the ocean waters. These migrants probably crossed in umiaks, skin boats large enough to hold a family.

About 28,000 Eskimo Americans live in Alaska today; there are also about 11,000 Eskimos in Canada, 22,000 in Greenland, and 1,200 in Siberia. An estimated 32,000 Eskimos lived in Alaska just prior to contact with the white man.

John Forbes Nash, Jr?

He is a famous twentieth-century mathematician.

Born in 1928, John Nash graduated from Princeton and eventually went on to win the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994. Of course, much of his fame also comes from his life story. In 1959, Nash was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia for which he was treated for nearly a decade.

His life was under the microscope in the Ron Howard film "A Beautiful Mind" which starred Russell Crowe in 2001. Crowe's performance as Nash won an Oscar as well as Howard's direction and the screenplay. The film also took home 'Best Picture'.

The parking meter has been almost unchanged since it started driving in 1959: one meter per space; put your money in the slot. In driving in Northern Europe younever see parking meters; You buy a piece of paper at a parking automat (typically one per block) and put it on your dashboard. Why the difference? I assume that available technologies are the same on both sides of the Atlantic, so it must be that the lower wage in the U.S. of the low-skilled meter collectors leads us to choose individual meters.

Why the change?

One would think it’s because the price of the kiosks has fallen steadily while even low-skilled wages continue to rise — to the point where the European-style technology is now cost-effective.

How to Spot Counterfeiting

Due to continuing improvements by U.S. mints, it's pretty tough to make counterfeit bills credible. However, there are still counterfeiters out there. It's not as hard to make paper money that will at least pass to a cashier's till, and new technology is used on the black market to create counterfeit bills. It takes a skilled eye to spot some counterfeit money, as well as attention to detail and a few moments to scan different parts of the bill.
